Taman Ayun Temple is a historical site from the Mengwi Kingdom, dating back to 1633 AD. In Balinese, Taman Ayun means “a very beautiful garden.” The natural scenery and the unique architecture of the temple make this attraction in Tabanan Regency worth visiting.
Taman Ayun Temple is surrounded by expansive ponds, covering an area of 4 hectares. The lush trees and flowers around the temple create the illusion that Taman Ayun is floating on the water’s surface. The temple complex consists of three sections: an open area, the main building, and a building for the gods and goddesses. Visitors can observe religious ceremonies, cultural performances, and admire the beauty of the tiered meru towers.
Visitors to this temple can also see the Bale Pelik building, which features intricate carvings, reliefs, and statues of the Dewa Nawa Sanga (Nine Gods). Not far from the temple, there are remnants of the Mengwi Kingdom as well as the Manusa Yadnya Museum, which showcases ceremonies related to the human life cycle, from conception to death.
