Goa Lawah Temple (Pura Goa Lawah), also known as the Bat Cave Temple, is one of Bali’s most iconic and spiritually significant temples. Located on the island’s eastern coast, near the village of Dawan in the Klungkung Regency, Pura Goa Lawah is renowned for its unique setting and religious importance.
The temple gets its name from the cave (goa) inside the temple complex, which is home to thousands of bats (lawah in Balinese). The sight of bats flying in and out of the cave, especially at dusk, adds to the mystical aura of the place. The temple itself is considered one of Bali’s six key directional temples, playing a crucial role in maintaining the island’s spiritual balance.
